The School of Physics and Engineering was established in 2021 on the basis of the School of Photonics. The school includes five autonomous research and educational centers:

International Research and Educational Center for Physics of Nanostructures;

Research and Educational Center for Photonics and Optical IT;

Faculty of Physics;

Institute of Laser Technologies;

Scientific and Educational Laboratory “Machine Vision.”
The School of Physics and Engineering brings together 1,700 people – 1,000 students and 700 staff. These include 184 PhDs, 59 DSc, and 18 PhD students – plus, 36 international faculty members. The average age of the school’s researchers is 34. The school is headed by Professor Pavel Belov, DSc in physics and mathematics.
The school implements a range of projects in optics, photonics, optical materials, nanotechnology, laser equipment and technology, electronics, and wireless technologies, as well as interdisciplinary projects in medicine, biochemistry, and art history. This research finds its applications both in academia and industry.
Our students participate in grant competitions and conferences and complete internships at universities in Russia and abroad within the university’s academic mobility program. The school’s research centers ensure the up-to-date training of professionals who will be able to quickly adapt to the work of research and production teams.
