Program description

The program is designed for prospective Master's students who wish to specialize in the field of optical and quantum technologies for the transfer, recording and processing of information, and in the field of femtotechnologies. Students acquire profound knowledge and practical skills both in general professional disciplines of the “Photonics and optical information technologies” subject area, and in such specialized professional disciplines as “Optical communication lines and quantum communications”, “Optical systems for recording, storing and displaying of information”, “Femtosecond optics and femtotechnologies”. It is important to note that the students spend more than 50% of the time working at the scientific laboratories and centers of the International Institute of Photonics and Optical Information Technologies, and such innovative industrial companies as Quantum Communications LLC, gaining practical skills of implementing projects commissioned by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the industry.

Within the framework of this program, Master's students are trained for modern high-tech areas of scientific and technical activities related to the use of information technologies based on optical and quantum principles, as well as related to the use of electromagnetic radiation of the optical range for the diagnosis and therapy of socially significant diseases.

Acquired education enables graduates to conduct research and engineering activities in the field of development and operation of optical and quantum devices and systems for the transmission, processing and recording of information; creation and operation of lasers and laser systems for various purposes; development and application of holographic technologies; software development for photonics and optical information technologies systems.

Master's students trained within this program have both a high level of basic theoretical training and practical professional experience that they receive by participating in the innovative projects of the laboratories of the International Institute of Photonics and optical information technologies.

Upon their graduation, the students possess the following competencies acquired throughout the program:

- readiness to use the acquired knowledge to work as scientists, research engineers, design engineers, communication engineers and new generation networks;

- the ability to use information, computer and network technologies in application to scientific and engineering activities in the field of photonics and optical information technologies;

- the ability to create and operate optical devices and systems of transmission, processing and recording of information;

- the ability to create and operate fiber-quantum communications and networks;

- the ability to develop software for photonics and optical information technologies systems;

- the ability to analyze optical properties of optoelectronic devices and systems, use nonlinear optics methods describing photonics phenomena and devices;

- the ability to develop and apply holographic technology.
