Application Deadlines

• November 25, 2022, for on-campus classes

For online mode

• Online training is conducted in Zoom.
• Classes are four academic hours long (one academic hour is equal to 45 minutes) and are held on business days.
• Each course lasts for one week (20 academic hours), and worth 2 ECTS. The course includes project work and extracurricular activities.
• The online format of the school allows students to choose the most convenient time for classes from 9 am to 6 pm (GMT+3). The latest class can be held from 6 to 9 pm (GMT+3).
• Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an official ITMO certificate.

For on-campus mode

• Classes are held on business days from 10 am to 1 pm
• Each course lasts for one week (20 academic hours), and worth 2 ECTS. The course includes project work and extracurricular activities.
• Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an official ITMO certificate.

Basic Russian Language Course for Beginners (0)

January 9-13/ January 16-20 / January 23-27 / January 30 - February 3

This course will help you acquire basic knowledge of the Russian language, learn to read and write, start speaking Russian, and master basic grammar. Communicative language teaching is used during all Russian language classes.

Basic Russian Language Course for Elementary Learners (A1)

This course is designed to help you improve your knowledge of the Russian language and practice all the main skills simultaneously. It naturally combines reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Here, special attention is paid to grammar and vocabulary.

Basic Russian Language and Culture Course for Pre-intermediate Learners (A2)

You will continue to study the main grammatical topics, expand your vocabulary, and thus improve your communication skills. You will also learn more about Russian culture and will be able to discuss many exciting topics in Russian.

Soft Skills (B1)

This course gives a broad overview of developing soft skills within the Russian context and thereby reveals specific features of the interaction between international and Russian students and specialists. During the classes, you will explore cultural similarities and differences between your own countries and Russia and compare them to international standards, analyze modern trends, and figure out what geography has to do with independence and self-discipline, economic conditions – with stress tolerance, and mindset – with flexibility. Practical exercises will help you examine a wide range of behavior models in business, highlight their strengths and weaknesses, as well as practice your skills in constructive communication, team building, and self-efficacy through various activities, exercises, and games.

Northern Russian Culture (B1)

The historical and cultural heritage of the Russian North has always attracted tourists from all over the globe. This course will take you on an unforgettable journey right to the heart of the Arctic Circle where you will explore the history of the Russian North and unleash the mystery of this unique region.

Cases of Russian Language (B1)

Practice shows that cases are among the most difficult aspects of Russian grammar for foreigners to master while learning the Russian language. This course will help you quickly grasp the grammatical forms of certain cases and their meanings. You will finally figure out the special cases for their use. In just one week, the most complicated field of Russian grammar will become simple and understandable for you!

Conversational Russian (B1)

The conversational course is designed to help you improve your speaking and listening skills while experiencing modern Russian colloquial speech. As part of the course, you will get acquainted with Russian slang and discuss its position within the literary norms and explore current trends in the Russian language.

Russian History (B2-C1)

This course on Russian history is a fascinating journey through the centuries and political regimes. You will see how historical changes affected the language and how the language forms our mentality, as well as virtually visit the sights of St. Petersburg, which played an important role in the history of the country.

January 16-20

Politics and Diplomacy of the Russian Federation (B2-C1)

This course is dedicated to modern Russian statehood and such aspects as the evolution of its political structure, the formation of civil society institutes, interaction with international organizations such as the UN, BRICS, WTO, and the EU. The course is adapted for students learning Russian as a foreign language. It is aimed to educate students about the political history of Russia and improve their Russian language skills as the Russian language is one of the six official languages of the UN, UNESCO, and other international organizations.

Discussions (B2-C1)

This course will help you develop your skills in speaking, persuasion, agreement, and disagreement. Classes are held in the Karl Popper debate format. During classes, you will discuss economic, political, environmental, and other problems, which humanity faces in the 21st century. 

January 30 - February 3

Russian Culture (B2-C1)

During the Russian culture course, you will be able to immerse yourself in Russian culture by studying its literature, history, religion, and art. The teachers will help you trace the composition and content of Russian culture over the centuries. The course is centered on the discussions of problems: the key focus lies on the turning points which determine the further development of Russian culture.
