Ekaterina Tambulatova



  • 2010 – obtained her PhD in thermophysics and theoretical heat engineering

  • 2008 – majored in canned food and concentrate technologies at St. Petersburg State University of Refrigeration and Food Processing Technologies (now ITMO University);

Professional activity

  • November 2002-present – holds various positions, from senior laboratory assistant, engineer (1 category), and assistant, to senior teacher at ITMO’s Faculty of Physics;

  • 2009-2014 – engineer (1 category) at the laboratory on thermophysical measurements and devices (part of the Innovation Technologies research laboratory);

  • 2012-present – associate professor at ITMO’s Faculty of Ecotechnologies;

  • 2014-2017 – employee at the communications office;

  • 2017 – deputy head of ITMO’s School of Biotechnology and Cryogenic Systems (administration, teaching, and career guidance activities), founder, and head of the Life Science School, a project for school students;

She is also a researcher at the International Laboratory “Materials and Structures for Electro- and Magnetocaloric Energy Conversion.”


Ekaterina Tambulatova supervises research projects and student groups who measure the properties of frozen and thawed soil and mountain ranges within various temperatures.

She participated in over 20 R&D projects, including as: 

  • a principal investigator at the project The Development of Research Methods for Physical, Chemical, and Thermophysical Properties of Objects in an Environment;

  • a principal investigator at The Study of Thermophysical Properties of Salt Rocks From -90°С to 20°С;

  • a researcher at The Development and Experimental Study of Active Ring Structures of Ultrahigh Frequency and Optical Ranges Using Multiferroic Materials;

  • a lead at The Development, Production, and Delivery of ИТС-lc-400 to Measure Thermal Conductivity and Specific Heat of Samples

  • a principal investigator at The Study of Thermophysical Properties of the Properties of Soil Samples From -20°C to 20°С

Inventions: automatic ИТС-lс-10 for measuring thermophysical characteristics of water-containing materials in freezing and thawing. 

Implemented at: FGUP (Federal State Unitary Enterprise) Fundamentproekt; Lomonosov Moscow State University, Geophysical Engineering Company LLC (Ingeocom), etc.

Professional interests

Thermophysical measurements and instrumentation, as well as studies of thermophysical properties of substances and materials in a wide temperature range.


2009 – the winner of the St. Petersburg grant competition for students and young scientists;

2011 – the winner of the second university-wide competition of project proposals held by ITMO;

2020 – accolade for educational achievements and long-term dedicated work from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Social activities

2010-present – a lead organizer, academic secretary, and member of the program committee of International science and technology conference “Modern Methods and Tools for Research on Thermophysical Properties of Materials.”

2012-present – a corresponding member of the International Academy of Refrigeration;

2017 – an academic at the International Academy of Refrigeration.
