Alexander Boukhanovsky

Biography

Alexander Boukhanovsky is a recognized expert in AI, cognitive technologies, as well as high-performance computing and computer modeling of complex systems. 

Education

1995 – finished a program in applied mathematics with honors at St. Petersburg Marine Technical University;

1997 – defended his PhD on the topic of the probabilistic modeling of wind-generated wave fields taking into account their heterogeneity and non-stationarity;

2005 – defended his DSc on the topic of parallel mathematical support for statistical measurements of characteristics of spatio-temporal fields.

Career

2006 – joined ITMO University’s Information Systems Department as a professor;

2007 – established the eScience Research Institute and then TROIKA: Technology and Research on Information-Driven Knowledge Alliance, ITMO University;

2011 – headed the High-Performance Computing Department, ITMO University;

2017 – headed the School of Translational Information Technologies, ITMO University.

2018 – participated in the creation of the National Center for Cognitive Research, ITMO University;

2021 – established and headed the  Research Center “Strong AI in Industry.”

Research

Alexander Boukhanovsky’s professional interests include machine learning and cognitive research, AI, modeling of complex systems, smart and high-performance computing, decision support systems, and computer modeling of complex systems.

Professor’s Scopus h-index is 16.

He has 250+ scientific publications, 53 intellectual property objects, and 70+ research projects and grants in the field of ICT; Prof. Boukhanovsky has supervised 35 PhD and DSc holders.
