Biography

Gennady Alekseev graduated from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of Voronezh State University in 1971 and opted to pursue his PhD at Baltic State Technical University in 1975. After he defended his thesis, he became a senior researcher, an assistant, and then an associate professor at the Faculty of Applied Mechanics.

In 2002, Gennady Alekseev joined ITMO’s Department of Food Production Processes and Equipment, where worked first as a professor and then as the head of the department. The same year, he earned his DSc and two years later, obtained the title of professor at ITMO University.

Gennady Alekseev is a co-author of six teaching aids, one textbook сertified by the Educational and Methodical Association of Educational Organizations and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, three monographs, and other educational and methodological literature. He is also a part of the Dissertation Council and a permanent member of the examination committee for prospective and PhD students. Over his career, he authored and co-authored around 300 scientific works, as well as received over 120 patents and invention certificates. 

Over the period of his leadership, his subordinates have been occupying leading positions among the faculties in the intra-university ranking. 

Gennady Alekseev helped establish the Coordination Center on the design and implementation of virtual laboratory workshops as part of the interuniversity comprehensive program Innovation Technologies in Education. He is also a member of the project associated with the development of intellectual property protection systems and cooperation between Russia, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark and successfully manages one of the university’s research and education centers. 

As one of the authors, Gennady Alekseev received the St. Petersburg Government Award for his prominent achievements in higher education and secondary professional education in 2008 (category: educational and methodological support of the educational process with the goal of  improving the quality of specialist training). Apart from the government award, he also has the Awards of the USSR Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Science, as well as the title of Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education.

In 2002,  Gennady Alekseev was elected as an academician of the International Academy of Refrigeration.
