The Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics, a part of the School of Computer Technologies and Control, offers fundamental engineering education. The faculty trains one-of-a-kind engineers in the fields of robotics, automatic control systems, electric power engineering, navigation systems, mechatronics, and instrumentation.

Thanks to the faculty’s activities, ITMO University is among the top 100 Russian universities in automation and control. The faculty trains highly-skilled IT specialists who can launch startups, work at world-class companies, patent inventions, and conduct research.

The faculty’s students attend classes at the sites of Diakont, Techpribor, Thermex, and Elektropribor where they work on business projects and have access to their laboratories and production resources.

Among the faculty’s partners are leading high-tech companies: Gazprom Neft, Schneider Electric, Geoscan, StarLine, Etalon, Navis, Transmashholding Engineering, Severstal, and Yablochkov, – which means internships, practices, and employment opportunities.

The faculty offers education for both Bachelor’s and Master’s students.

Bachelor’s studies

All specializations at our faculty are closely connected, so we combined them into a single program. Our students can create their own individual educational tracks to focus on a chosen field of study and learn about process automation in production, robotic and mechatronic complexes, thermal and electric power engineering, instrumentation, navigation, and technical systems control.

12.03.01 Instrumentation
13.03.01 Thermal Power and Thermal Engineering
13.03.02 Electric Power Industry and Electrical Engineering
15.03.04 Automation of Technological Processes and Production
15.03.06 Mechatronics and Robotics
24.03.02 Motion Control and Navigation Systems
27.03.04 Technical Systems Management

Master’s studies

Within our programs, students learn to code microcontrollers, design robotic systems, create control algorithms, develop and implement digital control systems for robots, manipulators, multirobots, boats, cars, and aircraft.

You’ll learn all about neural networks and AI, renewable energy sources, electric drive systems in radio telescopes and railway transport, as well as equipment for navigation and orientation for boats and self-driving cars.

Students intern at Sberbank’s Robotics Laboratory and ITMO’s laboratories.

01.04.02 Applied Mathematics and Computer Science
27.04.03 Systems Analysis and Control

12.04.01 Instrumentation
15.04.04 Automation of Technological Processes and Production

13.04.02 Electric Power Industry and Electrical Engineering

15.04.06 Mechatronics and Robotics

24.04.02 Motion Control and Navigation Systems

27.04.04 Technical Systems Management

The faculty is home to the following laboratories and centers:

  • International Laboratory of Biomechatronics and Energy-Efficient Robotics – multirotors, biomechanics, exoskeletons, and a production site equipped with machines and 3D printers;

  • International Laboratory of Geometric Methods and Applications – a robot manipulator, a robot artist, a pool with a boat, and a robot blini maker;

  • Adaptive and Nonlinear Control Systems Lab;

  • Laboratory of Energy Systems – wind and energy generators;

  • Laboratory of the Master’s program Digital Technologies in Manufacturing – a profilometer, modular equipment, a robot, a 3D printer, CNC machines, and electrical installation equipment;

  • Sberbank Robotics Laboratory.
