Alexander Vinogradov

The ITMO Advanced Engineering School in Interdisciplinary Engineering was established in 2022 at ITMO University as part of the federal project Advanced Engineering Schools that aims to train highly-qualified specialists for high-tech, export-oriented sectors of the economy to ensure the country’s technological sovereignty. Its main goal is to produce a new generation of engineers who possess the core competencies needed to accelerate digital transformation in emerging sectors of business and production.

Key tasks

Education

  • implement Master’s programs with a focus on practice and creation of MVPs (minimum viable products);

  • deliver courses aimed at developing a data-driven approach, soft skills, and fundamentals of entrepreneurship in students;

  • develop network educational programs with partner universities.

Science

  • conduct research activities in a range of fields, including AI, biotechnology, photonics, and others;

  • design and optimize biotechnologies, create nanobiosensors, study heart diseases, produce porous liquids, etc.

Events

  • organize conferences, hackathons, workshops, and schools for young scientists and specialists;

  • hold strategic sessions for defining goals and areas of development;

  • participate in projects intended for interaction with the country’s regions and facilitate partner relationships.

Objectives

  1. Training qualified engineering experts
    The school aims to train future PEs (principal engineers) in chemistry, photonics, biotechnology, and software engineering who can produce MVPs for industrial partners.

  2. Collaborative educational programs
    Among the school’s objectives is to develop and implement Master’s programs in collaboration with partner universities and companies, such as Tatneft and Mordovia State University.

  3. Research activities
    Jointly with its industrial partners, the school develops innovative technologies and products.

  4. Developing engineering competencies
    The school sets up students with engineering, management, and soft skills to efficiently transfer engineering solutions into production.

  5. Systemic cooperation with regions
    The school offers educational programs and projects in Russian regions (e.g., Almetyevsk and Saransk) to promote partnerships and improve the technological level of regional enterprises.
