Joseph Goodman
Biography
Joseph Wilfred Goodman gained the bachelor's degree at the Harward university, master degree and a doctor's degree in the field of electrical equipment at Stanford University. Goodman worked at Stanford University in the positions of the research associate, the professor, the Dean of Engineering faculty.
He held posts of the President of the Optical Society of America (OSA), the President of the international commission on optics (ICO), the Chairman of the committee of awards of the International society on optics and photonics (SPIE), the editor-in-chief of the magazine of the American optical society (JOSA).
Joseph W. Goodman is an American engineer and physicist most known for his achievements in optics and engineering. After receiving his degrees from Harvard and Stanford, Dr. Goodman held a number of positions in the field of optics and enjoyed a fruitful career at Stanford, where he assumed Emeritus status in 2000. Over the years he held numerous executive positions in the optical community, including the presidency of the Optical Society of America, governorship of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, and committee chairmanship for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Dr. Goodman is a Fellow of the OSA, the IEEE, and the SPIE. He is the author of approximately 220 technical publications, including the several textbooks. His awards include Dennis Gabor Award of the International Optical Engineering Society (SPIE) for his contributions to holography, optical processing and optical computing, SPIE Gold Medal and Emmett Leith Medal of the OSA.
